Application Development Manager

Bradford (Hybrid – 2 office days/week)

Working with a leading organisation we're looking for an experienced Application Development Manager.

This is an exciting time to join the team as they roll out a major transformation programme aimed at enhancing digital capabilities and improving the customer experience.

Responsibilities of the role:
  • Leading the development and support of key business applications, from legacy mainframe to modern cloud-based systems.
  • Managing the full application lifecycle and ensuring reliable service delivery across multiple business areas (e.g. finance, HR, logistics, marketing).
  • Overseeing a team of developers, providing coaching, guidance, and direction.
  • Coordinating multiple projects while keeping systems stable and secure.
  • Ensuring all development follows best practices in quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Working closely with stakeholders across the business, as well as external tech partners and service providers.
  • Supporting planning, resource management, and delivery of both BAU and project work.
About you
  • Extensive experience in enterprise application delivery and support.
  • Strong background managing teams working on mainframe and distributed systems.
  • Comfortable with Agile and traditional project delivery methods.
  • Solid technical understanding, especially around legacy (ideally COBOL-based systems).
  • Great communicator, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  • Commercially aware and able to balance business priorities with tech delivery.
  • Self-driven, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
Nice to have
  • Background in retail, logistics, or financial services.
  • Experience modernising legacy applications.
  • Exposure to IT service management (e.g., ITIL) and managed service environments.
  • Relevant qualifications in IT, Agile, or project management (e.g., PRINCE2, ITIL).
